Women Helplines in Sindh - Madadgaar PDF Print E-mail

 

15,769 women in Sindh province only were victimized in the last eight years. As many as 950 of them were raped and murdered - Lawyers for Human Rights & Legal Aid (LHRLA) – Dec, 2008.

 

In-depth review of data indicates that Larkana, Hyderabad and Sukhur have the highest level of Violence Against Women (VAW) cases in Sindh. The Madadgaar Helpline (a project of LHRLA) has established Women Helplines in these three cities with funding from UNDP’s Gender Justice and Protection Project. Madadgaar is running these Helplines in partnership with Sindh Development Society (Hyderabad), SAMAJ Foundation (Sukhur) and Community Development Network Forum (Larkana).

LHRLA's VAW Statistics in Sindh province (last 8 years)

 

  • 950 women were raped and murdered

 

  • 635 women were raped

 

  • 128 women were gang-raped

 

  • 1,086 women were physically tortured

 

  • 3,875 women were victims of Karo Kari

 

  • 321 women were burnt alive

 

  • 3,634 women were kidnapped

  • 654 women were victims of police torture
